CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers coach Ron Rivera says starting running back Jonathan Stewart is "very doubtful" for the team's game Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Stewart didn't practice all week after suffering a sprained left ankle in Carolina's win Monday night at Philadelphia.

Rivera says Stewart is "very sore" and "didn't do a lot of moving around" in practice.

Rivera says DeAngelo Williams, the franchise's all-time leading rusher, will get the start for the first time since Week 5 against Seattle if Stewart doesn't play. Williams is in the midst of his least productive season as a professional and was benched for Stewart after the team's bye week.

Defensive end Antwan Applewhite (hamstring) is also doubtful and cornerback Captain Munnerlyn is questionable. Hamstring issues kept both players out of practice Friday.
