SCOTT SEEKING PAY RAISE FOR FLORIDA'S TEACHERS

Gov. Rick Scott wants to give a $2,500 across the board pay raise to every full time teacher in the state. The governor will include the pay raise as part of the 2013 budget recommendations he will give to state legislators. The pay raise is expected to cost $480 million.

DEFENSE: SNITCH LIED IN FLORIDA MISSING GIRL CASE

A defense attorney says a jailhouse snitch concocted a story about a confession by a South Florida woman accused of killing a 4-year-old foster child in order to get out of prison. Attorney Michael Matters told jurors in a closing argument Wednesday there were inconsistencies in testimony by inmate Robin Lunceford. Geralyn Graham supposedly confessed to smothering Rilya Wilson and burying her body over a decade ago.

CASE DROPPED AGAINST DOLPHINS PLAYER

Prosecutors have dropped a battery charge against Miami Dolphins reserve defensive back Jonathan Amaya. He was accused of choking a South Beach cab driver in Miami hours after the team's victory over the Seattle Seahawks in November.

STATE SEEKS TO CREATE INSPECTOR GENERAL TO OVERSEE CITIZENS

A state lawmaker has filed legislation to create an inspector general position to oversee the state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp.

MIAMI TO HOST SOCCER'S GOLD CUP GAMES

Miami is among 13 U.S. cities selected to host Gold Cup soccer games this summer. The federation for soccer in North America, Central American and the Caribbean announced the sites Wednesday. The tournament is scheduled for July 7-28.
